How to install Gnome & KDE with defalut settings/App

Postby marcelC » Wed May 11, 2011 14:10

When I install Sabayon Gnome, It come's with some app's defalut like Guagke, Fusion, and so on. I guess there may be some custom settings.
When I install Sabayon KDE, It come's with some app's defalut like Yakuake, Firewall Builer, and some custom seetings too.

I installed KDE edition but, being a beginner I messed something up, and reinstalled but this time I taked the trip with Gnome edition.
Now being on gnome, and wishing kde too I installed as: equo install --ask kdebase-meta --multifetch
that installed kde into my laptop but is not the same as sabayon kde edition, being some differences between, It dose not came with firewall builder, yakuake, the theme is different and the menu has some icon's missing (for konversation for example) http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/198/dsc0092tg.jpg/

In ubuntu If I wish to install kubuntu kde custiomized desktop I would do apt-get install kubuntu-desktop or If I installed kubuntu and wishing ubuntu as well I would install it as apt-get install ubuntu-desktop NOT apt-get install kde meta or kde light or gnome light etc. that woul install anothere packages, i guess it can bee seen the difference.

Is there any posibility to install the custom sabayon KDE desktop with all the apps and the custom settings from kde-sabayon spin or should I install it over again, this time from the dvd?

By the way, why .png images open by defalut with Wine Internet explorer (and the image can't beee seen) and not with shotwell or something like this?

Edit: Ps. The sound, mixer is not in tray with this kde.

I'm moving this thread to the '3D Desktops and Window Managers' shed (forum) as it's a more appropriate location.

Did you install x11-themes/sabayon-artwork-kde as well?

Did you install the kde-misc packages as well?:

Code: Select all
$ eix -A -I kde-misc | grep kde-misc
[U] kde-misc/basket
[I] kde-misc/kcm_gtk
[I] kde-misc/kcm_touchpad
[U] kde-misc/kdiff3
[U] kde-misc/kdocker
[D] kde-misc/kgrubeditor
[U] kde-misc/knetworkmanager
[U] kde-misc/krename
[I] kde-misc/krusader
[I] kde-misc/kwebkitpart
[I] kde-misc/polkit-kde-kcmodules
[I] kde-misc/smooth-tasks
[I] kde-misc/synaptiks
[U] kde-misc/yakuake
[D] kde-misc/kio-sysinfo [2]

Regarding PNG files being opened by WINE Internet Explorer, I have no idea (it has never happened to me) but you can change the default application to open PNG files by using Kickoff > System Settings > File Associations in KDE. In GNOME you right-click on the file in question, select Properties, select the 'Open With' tab, then select the application you want to use.

Regarding KMix, if it is not on the Panel, press Alt-F2 to launch KRunner, and enter the command "kmix" (without the quotes).

Filled. http://bugs.sabayon.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2440

Returning to the topic, I installed sabayon in this scenario:
1. Boot Sabayon Gnome Live DVD
2. Installed into the laptop
3. equo update, equo upgrade entropy/sulfur
4. equo install --ask kdebase-meta --multifetch
5. equo install basket kcm_gtk kcm_touchpad kde-misc/kdiff3 kde-misc/kdocker kde-misc/kgrubeditor kde-misc/knetworkmanager kde-misc/krename kde-misc/krusader kde-misc/kwebkitpart kde-misc/polkit-kde-kcmodules kde-misc/smooth-tasks kde-misc/synaptiks kde-misc/yakuake kde-misc/kio-sysinfo --multifetch

But I got a feeling that something was missing so I installed also

6. equo install firewallbuiler && equo install kde-meta

Now it seems, and I hope that all defalut sabayon-kde packages are here, but I noticed that some (pictures) icons are missing from menu like kopette, clementine when the menu it's in the kick-off style, in classic way it its fine.
http://imageshack.us/m/535/9268/snapshot1vl.png and I got some error regardet to touchpad, the mouse work's but the synaptics pad dose not, maybe will work if i give some restart;s.

Is the Synaptics driver installed (x11-drivers/xf86-input-synaptics)? If not, install it and see if that helps.
