Sabayon Suddenly Freeze

Postby Luposz » Thu Oct 14, 2010 1:48

Hello ^^
Some days ago I installed Sabayon 64 bit in my laptop, everything fine, but I did a 40gb partition, I was just testing it.
Now the partition is 130gb, but now I have some issues... Suddenly it freezes, just like that, I had to reinstall some programs and now some errors was fixed, but I don't know how I can fix that.
Most of the times, the screen get freezed when I'm in the System Configuration (Dunno how it's called in English, in Spanish is "Preferencias del Sistema")
I don't know what to do, I don't want to re-install D:
If some other info is needed please tell me =3
Thanks a lot ^^

Use this tool to gather logs
http://forum.sabayon.org/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=15530
After you're done, post links to the pastebin here

Edit: Never mind that, you probably have a video driver issue. Like one guy said, chroot from livecd, install and switch drivers
http://forum.sabayon.org/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=22005
What you are getting is probably just a blank screen, not a hung system

I also thought there was something about the drivers :S
And I don't get a white screen, the desktop freezes, but if I'm listening to music I still can change song, and listen everything, the same, if I'm watching a video I still hear it.
Just the desktop is freeze.

If you have widgets running, try disabling them

Your last log looks very much like the one posted on this forum.

I don't use any widget =S
It usually freezes when I try to change something in the System Preferences

Let' try another shot at this. Instead of logging in, switch to a terminal CTRL+ALT+F2. Then login as sabayonuser (your normal user, not root)
Code: Select all
rm -rf .kdemod4/share/config/plasma-desktoprc

and CTRL+ALT+F7 to log in again.
Kubuntu users seem to be getting fixes for this, possibly from configuration files

I'm getting the same problem after upgrading. Use CTRL+ALT+F2 to switch to a console and /etc/init.d/xdm restart to get out of it.

Sorry I got here so late to investigate the issue, but it seems to be a KDE bug:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=246498
Read comment 1 for an easy way to get around it.

Just a comment to sum this up:
free software + internet = society with no monetary system
