Hey Franchute13,

Sorry for my incompetence, but in what directory should I find KDM.LOG.OLD?

I do not remember if it is called exactly like that "KDM.LOG.OLD"

The directory is the LOG
var/log/

Important is that it is the OLD file because it has everything error.

Sorry for my english

Ah, I'm very sorry Franchute13, but to do this I will have to upgrade my system to the newest X.org Server (1.8.2) in order to evoke the mistake and get that log file for you. I really don't wanna do this, since staying with v. 1.7.7-r1 gives me a peace of mind.

But I'm still waiting for a trustworthy advice on how to make the change from vesafb to Radeon KMS via configuration files.

Two small updates.

I have found that selecting XRender (instead of OpenGL) in KWin settings solves the problem. But then KWin goes so slow that it is unusable.

Franchutte13, here is the content of my "/var/log/kdm.log", with a backtrace and fatal error/segmentation fault:

Another, more up-to-date description of the problem:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28181

In the meanwhile, no segfaults occur by using Compiz instead of KWin + OpenGL (KWin + XRender is unusable).
