You can't use the kde-window-decorator with compiz, the current 3D effects for kde4 is kwin(could try aurorae for a different window manager that still uses kwin effects), compiz can use metacity or emerald and as a rule of thumb if you don't have the fusion-icon your probably not running compiz aka compiz-fusion.

I`ll second nievous original question.
I would very much give kde4-window-decorator a try, but it is just not availabe in 'Select Window Decorator' menu in Compiz Fusion Icon.
Does anyone know if that is distro specific and we could ask maintainer to think about including it?

entropy packages seem to have been compiled without kde USE flags, but on the other hand I don`t even know if that can be the problem (what does kde use flag is responsible for in this case)

Code: Select all

lapek ~ # eix -I compiz

....

[D] x11-wm/compiz
     Available versions:  (~)0.8.2-r3 {+cairo dbus fuse gnome gtk kde kde3 +svg}
Installed versions: 0.8.4(08:22:51 AM 10/26/2009)(cairo dbus gtk svg -fuse -gnome -kde -kde3)
     Homepage: http://www.compiz.org/
     Description: 3D composite and windowmanager

[D] x11-wm/compiz-fusion
     Available versions:  (~)0.6.0 (~)0.8.2 {emerald gnome kde unsupported}
Installed versions: 0.8.4(08:23:25 AM 10/26/2009)(-emerald -gnome -kde -unsupported)
     Homepage: http://www.compiz.org/
     Description: Compiz Fusion (meta)

Found 7 matches.
lapek ~ #
In fact gnome and kde use flags are explicitly removed in package.use

Code: Select all

 lapek ~ # grep -i compiz /etc/portage/package.use
x11-wm/compiz -gnome -kde
x11-wm/compiz-fusion -gnome -kde
Clarification much appreciated ;)

Best Regards

Has anyone ever clarified why KDE and GNOME are disabled in compiz on Sabayon? I had assumed when I downloaded the KDE version of Sabayon 5 that the packages for KDE and Compiz to work together would be installed. KDE window decorations do indeed work with Compiz on Gentoo. See this from the Gentoo wiki --> http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Compiz-F ... of_Emerald Also, the section above this describes why the USE flags for GNOME, and KDE would be set (i.e., you are not using Compiz with GNOME or KDE, just XFCE or X11) --> http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Compiz-Fusion#USE_Flags It would be nice to have the packages available in future distros...

Compiz is not installed by default with the KDE edition of SL, as KWin has its own 3D Desktop Effects which work out-of-the-box in SL if your GPU supports OpenGL and AIGLX.

Of course one can install Compiz in the KDE edition as well if one wants to; that's what I do. The packages you need to install are listed below:

compizconfig-python
compiz-bcop
compizconfig-backend-gconf
compizconfig-backend-kconfig4
libcompizconfig compiz-plugins-extra
compiz-plugins-main
compiz-plugins-unsupported
compiz
compiz-fusion
ccsm
fusion-icon
emerald
emerald-themes

Below are the full details of what is installed on my laptop, Compiz-wise, under KDE 4.5.2. Compiz and KDE Desktop Effects work beautifully on my laptop. Notice the USE flags listed below for the Compiz-related packages installed on my laptop. It still works fine.

It has been clarified here: https://bugs.sabayon.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1025

I just forgot to update this thread.

Quick summary: we can`t have compiz with kde USE flag, because the same package on SL Gnome would pull lots of kde dependencies.

Well, it looks like this thread might be dead. All the same, I'll throw in my two cents. Open up CCSM and head to the sections marked "Window Decorations." In the box labelled "Command," enter "kde4-window-decorator --replace," without the quotes, of course. This will work with any of the native Kwin decorations, as well as Bespin and the newer Smaragd; however, it won't work with any Arorae decorations. Good Luck

P.S: You'll likely need to start a fresh instance of Compiz to activate this.
