How to hide extensions? KDE4.2.4

Postby amoebios » Fri Jul 17, 2009 22:47

How can i hide file extensions in KDE?

Because....
When i right-click on the desktop and choose "Create new" > "Link to URL" then it doesn't hide the ".desktop" part from the name. But when i choose "Link to application" the extension is not displayed.

As a work around right click the icon and select rename, highlight the ".desktop" and delete
Desktop ASUS M2N-MX SE Plus, AMD 64 X2 Dual Core 5200, 4 Gb RAM, GeForce 9500 1GB
Notebook HP CQ61-311AX, AMD CPU M320, 4 Gb RAM, Radeon HD 4300 512 MB
Wireless AR9285, Audio ATI SBx00 (IDT 92hd75B2x5)

I found that didn't work for me on the KDE 4.2.x Desktop but I could rename in the "right click", "properties", "Application Tab" window

Nope, the URL links don't have an application tab. Renaming works, tho. Thanks.

Hint: You can edit the links in a text editor to quickly change the icon, for example.
