Sabayon 4.1 and KDE 4.3

Post by tekwyzrd » Sat May 09, 2009 5:01

As I understand it, KDE 4.3 is expected to be released in June. It looks like the upgrade process might be a nightmare when you consider that the kde info is in the .kde4.2 directory. Has anyone considered what might be necessary to migrate to v4.3? This might be a good time to start drafting a guide to migration. I dread re-creating my user environment and migrating user info to yet another version. I switched from 3.5.10 to 4.2.2 a few weeks ago and dread setting up my email accounts again.
Former Sabayon user (2005 - 2013) and current Arch user.
I liked Sabayon until it switched to Rigo and becoming the gentoo equivalent of Ubuntu. Extreme browsing? Extreme gaming? Extreme work? Extreme development? Like, totally gnarly, dude!

Might then be able to get the theme of SL to default to something similar to calculatelinux with SL artwork.

Well have to update the wiki as well especially for newby's + compiz fancy tricks how-to and much more that is current and applicable to current SL versions. Lots of work ahead.

the regular updating now turns the 4.2 to 4.3 normally...
not al themes , packages are converted to 4.3 , therefore..., nad KDE 3 not totally stable or funcional.
in my tests, 4.3 KDE is not totally stable, tranlated or fully functional, until this moment.

NO! Regular update is my term to said: equo world or equo upgrade.
equo update only updating the database, the packages tree of Entropy,
including this is now may be automatically carried out by Magneto.

On 4th August 2009, KDE 4.3.0 was released by the KDE community.
it was just released and it's only available for branch 5, I'm not even sure if branch 5 has the latest yet. It's been running the RCs.

KDElibs:
Just double check on kdelibs as the 2000+ found errors (poor coding, dirty code practices / lazy coding) I have reported this weekend in 4.2.4-r4 could cause issues and might not have been fixed in 4.3 yet.

Link? if not this is getting very close to trolling Warra! Why not help KDE by fixing them.

Personally all KDE4.2+ has been rock solid for me :D

I am so sorry I was trying to prevent someone else from bumping their heads with little old kdelibs 4.2.4-r4 ~amd64 as what I have found on Calculate linux ~amd64 when they can skip to a possible if fixed kdelibs in 4.3.* if available and avoid more issues.

Why not just run
emerge kdelibs
using 4.2.4-r4 and see how much lies I am telling LMAO or is that too hard ?

Amazing I am so freaking busy and have to give my mind a rest by using SL / Gentoo from my work and the 200 people I have to employ because I am so freaking successful and busy. Why would I want to waist anyone's time with KDE issues or does there need to be issues to keep the forums going ?

I am so glad I am not part of this anymore. Just when you think you can sponsor SL or help with jobs, Et Tu Brute/SL.
It is time Fabio returns to SL and takes back leadership.
