Natuilus Startup Freeze [Solved]

Postby Sythyss » Thu May 08, 2008 3:25

Ok, just did a fresh install of sabayon, unmerged beagle (as told to in my previous post) and restarted. Now when I log in, the little startup flash freezes when trying to startup nautilus. some basic gnome stuff can be accessed (like firefox), but I can't really do anything else. There's no desktop, no background, and can't open folders, etc. any ideas?

Wow, that's entirely unexpected.

can you try to start nautilus from the command line so we can see errors?

yup...problem with beagle.

nautilus: error while loading shared libraries: libbeagle.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

so...how do I fix?

recompile nautilus, it linked against beagle. Run revdep-rebuild -X, and if that fails and If you haven't synced portage yet just type emerge =nautilus-x.x.x where x.x.x is the version number. If you have synced portage and revdep fails you may need to pull in a more recent version of nautilus, which will trigger a gnome upgrade spree.

revdep gave me a bunch of blocked packages.
[blocks B ] <sys-fs/udev-114 (is blocking media-libs/libgphoto2-2.4.1)
[blocks B ] sys-process/schedutils (is blocking sys-apps/util-linux-2.13.1.1)
[blocks B ] kde-base/ksync (is blocking kde-base/kdelibs-3.5.8-r4)
[blocks B ] >=sys-apps/util-linux-2.13_pre (is blocking sys-process/schedutils-1.5.0)
[blocks B ] <sys-fs/device-mapper-1.02.19-r1 (is blocking sys-fs/udev-120)

I don't like just unmerging everything to solve it, because I've broken my system by doing that...more than once =P

what's a safe way to resolve this?

You'll have to perform what amounts to a partial update - use my revdep-update script found in the "revdep-rebuild woes?" post under portage and packaging, if I remember correctly. That'll get you through, though you'll have some blocks and probably a python update to deal with.
