so does anyone else know what's wrong with GTK themes is sabayon? They seem to affect very little now...I can't even change colors manually, they seem to be controlled by something else.

Yea I dislike the red theme, it hurts my eyes and makes me even angrier when something goes wrong

As for your problem here is the answer:

Just browse to your home folder, tell nautilus to show hidden files and then delete these files:

.gtkrc-2.0
.gtkrc-2.0-kde (might not be there)

Restart X, and the themes should be fully functional and apply fully not partially.

As for those unhelpful people, whenever gnome comes up, don't automatically assume its Ubuntu or some other distro.
