Compiz and new nvidia 171.06.01 driver ?

Postby WarraWarra » Sat Apr 19, 2008 23:30

Has anyone tried the nvidia 171.06.01 drivers yet and can you confirm how well it's running with compiz fusion etc ?
The laptop temperature reading is important here if possible to check and report back .

Seems they fixed a few things + added a card or 2 and possibly fixed a temperature bug as well recently , hopefully the 8800m GTX laptop video card has been added.

I don't see it in portage yet , should be there soon.

To install / test:
# cd to folder where file is saved
# sudo sh ./NV*.run

Several guy's in another forum asked as they would like to switch to Linux and need info about their cards and this one , is how I found out about this.

we only recommend using portage for installing drivers and software - people doing this can end up with API mismatches and fubaring their display more, so only install outside of equo/portage if you know what you are doing as we can't support packages installed by other means.

True.
Can not wait for it to be in portage as this is fast and responsive even managed to get on my test bed default 3.4 mini clean install , the compiz emerald to work and is it fast wow.

This looks like a keeper for the future.
