Bad resolution after reboot, even after editing xorg.conf

Postby Soc » Tue Jan 01, 2008 22:10

Hello.

Yes, I have read wiki.
Yes, I have edited xorg.conf
But... every time I reboot my resolution changes to damn 1920x1200 and my eyes are bleeding.
My default resolution is 1240x1024. I can only get it by pasting my backup of xorg.conf.

So, there is my xorg.conf. -> WHOLE

And there monitor and screen sections

Code: Select all
Section "Screen"

# The Identifier, Device and Monitor lines must be present

    Identifier   "Screen 1"
    Device   "VESA"
    Monitor   "Generic Monitor"
    #Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "true"

# The favoured Depth and/or Bpp may be specified here

    DefaultDepth 24

    SubSection "Display"
        Depth      8
        ViewPort   0 0
        Modes      "1280x1024""
    EndSubsection

    SubSection "Display"
        Depth           16
        ViewPort        0 0
        Modes      "1200x1024""
    EndSubsection

    SubSection "Display"
        Depth           24
        ViewPort        0 0
        Modes      "1200x1024""
    EndSubsection

Section "Monitor"

    Identifier   "Generic Monitor"
    #Option      "DPMS"

    VertRefresh 43 - 60
    HorizSync   28 - 80

EndSection

EndSection

My graphic card is ATI radeon 600x.
Anyway, I can't get working XGL too (On live cd it was working)

Any help apprecited.

Your mode lines are messed up. They read 1200x1024 when they should read 1280x1024.

Your depth value of 8 is correct, but you're defaulting to 24 which is where the problem is. Change those and you should be all set.

Also, it looks like you have two sets of quotation marks at the end of each mode line, you should remove one.

Code: Select all
    SubSection "Display"
        Depth      8
        ViewPort   0 0
Modes      "1280x1024"" <-- Two ending quotes
    EndSubsection

    SubSection "Display"
        Depth           16
        ViewPort        0 0
Modes      "1200x1024"" <-- Two ending quotes
    EndSubsection

    SubSection "Display"
        Depth           24
        ViewPort        0 0
Modes      "1200x1024"" <-- Two ending quotes
    EndSubsection

Your lines should look like this:

SubSection "Display"
Depth 8
ViewPort 0 0
Modes "1280x1024"
EndSubsection

SubSection "Display"
Depth 16
ViewPort 0 0
Modes "1280x1024"
EndSubsection

SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
ViewPort 0 0
Modes "1280x1024"
EndSubsection

Damn. So much time lost.

Thanks a lot ;)

Anyway I got other problem - acceleration manager don't apply xgl.
Same as "Run as root" don't want to remember passwords when I mark "keep password".

I will solve this tomorrow - need to sleep now.
