Here is my same screenshot running i686 Sabayon 11 Xfce.. 303mb Used.
What are you running to bring your 64bit kernel to 530mb :?:

Haha, Firefox, which is minimized. Otherwise, it idles at about 210-280MB.

210mb to 280mb is Great with Xfce :wink:
Makes me wonder though... Firefox is really hogging some memory there..
I started up my Browser on the same Sabayon install and Chromium only shot it up to 410mb..
I like firefox and use it elsewhere but over 300mb is really not good.

Yeah, it really is a huge RAM hog, unfortunately. I also keep Midori around for something more lightweight, but Firefox is what I use day-to-day, so I live with it.

Here's with a fresh reboot, nothing else running:

And with only Midori running:

@JWJones
Thanks for the screen shots and Updates.
It is now obvious to me that I have let Extra panels and an array of addon gadgets eat up my standing desktop memory.
However these panel addons are items that I wanted on my Desktop, so I will put up with the mem differences..

The gadgets may make a difference, but I don't think the number of Xfce panels makes much difference. But this is not the whole picture. There are many services and startup items that I have disabled, from the default installation:

* Disk Notifications
* Magneto Updates Notifier (I don't use Rigo, and just update occasionally, manually, with equo from command line)
* PolicyKit Authentication Agent
* PulseAudio Sound System (ALSA is just fine for me, I don't like PA)
* VirtualBox Client Service

Before I disabled all of these, my base RAM usage was around 500MB! Ouch!

ScreenShots are Large so I posted Links
Sabayon 11 3.7 Xfce4
Modified Cairo, Xfce Panels, Conky, Icons & Themes.
Makes for a nice Biz Notebook. Clean Desktop, Moderately light Install and very quick.
Theme lends an Easy on the eyes look. Even in Low Light for lots of Screen time.

Nice desktop, sqlpython. The dock covers some of the information bar along the bottom of the desktop. Would it be possible for a user to 'glue' the dock a smidgen above the lower edge of the desktop, or does it always appear in that position? I am just curious, as I don't use Cairo Dock.

Thanks, for now I do like the look as well as the functionality.
While everything is Mouseable, I also have Shortcut Keys to launch all Often used apps and Often used Desktop Functions. So, you can happily work without a Mouse or Touchpad if you so choose.

You are correct. While the Bottom Cairo dock is a Disappearing PopUP Dock and mostly is out of sight it does block info when accuated. So, I adjusted the position and now it PopsUP above the conky.
Thanks for the Critique. Looks better now.
