ati and compiz-fusion

Postby echo6 » Mon Oct 15, 2007 16:52

I had compiz working until I upgraded my kernel to 2.6.22-mactel-r2-mactelpatches-core2duo
and x11drivers/ati-drivers-8.39.4 I also tried x11-drivers/ati-drivers-8.40.4-r11 with the same error.

Code: Select all
chameleon echo6 # cat /var/log/Xorg.*.log | grep "(EE)"
(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown.
(EE) AIGLX error: dlsym for __driCreateNewScreen_20050727 failed (/usr/lib/dri/fglrx_dri.so: undefined symbol: __driCreateNewScreen_20050727)
(EE) AIGLX: reverting to software rendering

Until the 8.42 (hopefully) driver comes out, you probably need to use XGL as opposed to AIGLX. Did you enable it using accel-manager??

Did you restart X? Try running compiz-start from a terminal...I had that problem on 3.4e and had to start it manually the first time.

I've emerged ati-drivers-8.42.3-r10, but still not getting xeffects.

looks like you didn't follow the guide written by wolfden...if you read the post under sabayon PE 1.1 Press release you'll notice a command after emerging ati-drivers...something like ln -s /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 ......etc etc read it do that command and emerge the new version of desktop-acceleration-helpers...you'll be able to use aiglx at that point

I've followed the guide, my problems started after updating the kernel to 2.6.23. Some people have reported getting the latest driver working with this kernel on the Gentoo forums. I've since gone back to using 2.6.22-mactel kernel and updated compiz-fusion using the fusionupdate.sh script. So I now compiz-0.6.2 etc
Code: Select all
