Uninstalling Compiz/Reinstalling [Solved]

Postby lucknuts » Sat Oct 06, 2007 6:00

What is the easiest way to uninstall all of compiz components and reinstall them?
Code: Select all

Running 32bit sabayon 3.4f mini.
-----------------------------------------

Was working great, then I was adjusting themes and trying to get things back to normal, then I just got lost after that....

Now compiz won't start on start up. Dbus doesn't load.

When I run:

Code: Select all
compiz

from the terminal i get'

Code: Select all
[email protected] ~ $ compiz
compiz (core) - Error: Screen 0 on display ":0.0" already has a window manager; try using the --replace option to replace the current window manager.
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0
[email protected] ~ $

when i run compiz-start

I get the following
Code: Select all
[email protected] ~ $ compiz-start
NVIDIA detected
Using KDE decorator
Starting Compiz with: --replace ccp --sm-disable
compiz (cubecaps) - Warn: Failed to load image: fusioncap.png
compiz (cubecaps) - Warn: Failed to load image: compizcap.png

I know the images don't load because I changed them beforehand...

i also typed in

Code: Select all
fusion-icon

and i got the following output
Code: Select all
localhost Lucky # fusion-icon
 * Error: the "FusionIcon" module is missing. If you did not install fusion-icon to /usr, you may need to add the appropriate site-packages directory to your PYTHONPATH

also when I try to update compiz since I noticed I have 5.2.....

Code: Select all

As a matter of fact, it actually loaded while running that time, but still compiz-icon will not load in the top.

what do I do? or how do I fix this???

if there is more information you need that might help me out it would be appreciated! i do not want to re-install. would be crappy as hell to do it again.

thank you all

Believe it worked. So far so good, appreciate it. Seen this bulletin although I didn't think this would have done it....

Now after doing all of that, it still doesn't work. Retstarted and everything.

I get the following when trying to run compiz-start

Thats the thing, everything I had in my menus went away. So I figured if I didn't have Fusion-icon in my menu that I would have to do everything from the command line. (sucks)

I did run the accel-manager, and normally that comes up with a compiz settings manager on my desktop. Never came...

Not sure what the problem could be. How about you?

....and this technically isn't solved. Compiz is still not working.

I re-emerged fusion-icon, I now have the fusion-icon in my menu, now I click on it, and nothing happens.

Running fusion-icon from the command line gives me this output
Code: Select all
localhost Lucky # fusion-icon
 * Detected Session: kde

that's cause you have missing use flags in your make.conf, this has been addressed over and over

you need to add to your make.conf

opengl qt4 qt3 qt3support gtk sdl png gif

than reinstall your stuff.

So the correct way to fix my problem would be to do

viewtopic.php?f=57&t=10558 <- this first

and then do

viewtopic.php?f=53&t=9882 <- this second

to fix it right?
