DWL122b1 & blacklist modules

Postby giordy72 » Wed Aug 08, 2007 20:27

Hi folks,
i'm loosing my nerves setting up the infamous dlink dwl122 rev b1. The installer loads the rt2500usb driver by default, but i can't findout the way to get it working in my home lan protected by wpa. First of all i have to say that i'm new with gentoo...i ever used Ubu on my laptop and pclinuxos/mandriva on the desktop. (suse when i was a child). Well, googleing and bringing my mind at the end of sanity i ever set this f....g realtek chip works with OS drivers and also ndiswrapper, with or without wpa.
Unfortunately all my knowledge about this usb wlan stick fails with sabayon (that is a great distro).
I think there are a lot of differences between sabayon/gentoo and my other distro: about this i have to figure why sabayon still load some modules that i have blacklisted!!!
Pleeeeease guys, someone can help me to understand and solve this issues!?
I don't want to come back to the slow distro i ever used!

ps for what i've see till now sabayon is amazing :-)

ps2 (no..not the games console) Sorry 4 my bad english!

Hi!

I'm new to Sabayon and I also noticed, that blacklisted modules are still being loaded. In my case I have a problem with sound (not only in Sababyon, but I had it also on Aurox and Mandriva). I have two sound cards, one integrated with my motherboard, and the other is Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 on PCI slot. Sabayon (KDE to be precise) most time when I boot uses the one integrated, which I'm not using at all an which is disabled in BIOS. Now in Mandriva the only thing I had to do is to put snd_via82xx on a blacklist, and after that KDE don't even recognize the integrated sound card, which is a perfect situation. I tried to do the same in Sabayon (also KDE) - I put snd_via82xx in /etc/modprobe.d/blaclist and in /etc/modules.d/blacklist. Unfortunately the module is still being loaded after restart and I rarely have sound (once every 5-10 boots, when KMix randomly uses the right mixer).
How to blacklist modules in Sabayon???

Worth trying the SL Forum Search facility? I used the keyword "blacklist" and found more than one thread with an example of how to blacklist a module. Maybe one of these may help you.

You could also do the same by Googling. I tried the keywords "gentoo", blacklist" and "modules" and found several links to pages explaining how to blacklist modules under Gentoo (which therefore also apply to SL).

Not if you've tried all those methods.

Have you already run alsaconf and selected the Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 sound card?

Not in Sabayon, but previously on Mandriva I did use alsaconf. Unfortunately it was a temporary solution as the settings always had been reset after reboot, till I blacklisted mentioned above modules.

I forget to say SOLVED 4 my problem.
The reason is that sabayon read /etc/modules.conf (or /etc/modprobe.conf i don't remember...i'm at work without my SabaPC) and not the scripts located in the /etc/mod... directorys. PM me if U don't find the file i'm talking about and I answer once i return home.
