Howto bcm43xx and sabayon 3.4?

Postby leff » Wed Jul 25, 2007 18:54

Thought I should try sabayonlinux again... Last time was 3.26

Well... My network displayed as default, but I was unable to connect. I thought that this version should support bcm43xx wireless cards? Or no?

Tried some of the games, but the laptop shut down... it seems like the fan is spinning very slow... I mean, it's hot. Burning my hands writing this...hehe What to do?

But off course it looks great :D

Wifi bcm43xx does end up working but slow / bad connection.
Fix:
I posted here for someone else the how-to for windows driver + ndiswrapper think it is the bcm43xxABG post not sure was today I replied.

In live dvd mode or installed the top right next to time is a icon looking like a power cable this is the kpower and you should be bale to set it to dynamic or powersave to cool it down a bit. Playing games will push the cpu to max speed , same for video card so install one of the fan speed control programs to help.
Dell laptops dellfand work but only for the left /cpu fan not for right side video card fan.
I8k module works for both provided you can manage to load it and or find it I have had no luck as it is removed from the kernel on purpose ? and had no luck installing it or making it work yet.
gkrellm should activate the toshiba / asus temp control not sure don't own one of them.

Hope this helps.

I had the problem with the wireless too the wiki did nothing to help the situation so on a whim i formatted the drive and instead of installing KDE I installed Gnome and boom problem solved. With KDE it had booted fine first boot but every boot there after KDE would refuse to see the wireless adapter. Try the installing Gnome instead it might help you out.

Yeah, I am having the same problem, but I don't consider "use Gnome" as a solution. :?

I tried this, but it did not change anything. Seems like I'm sticked with wired connection :(
Or... vista...hehe No... gonna try a bit more.

[ 27.328796] bcm43xx_mac80211: FOUND UNSUPPORTED PHY (Analog 4, Type 2, Revision 9)
[ 27.328814] bcm43xx_mac80211: probe of ssb0:0 failed with error -95

you're one of the unlucky one to have problems with mac80211...the solution is this....recompile your kernel with the sofmac bcm43xx driver and disable bcm43xx_mac80211, also you'll need to change the firmware
emerge =bcm43xx_firmware-4319-r1

Thanks DM, will do. But, another issue is that my wired NIC doesn't work either, so no emerging for me? :( Is there a way that I can download the firmware file to a windows box, save it to a usb drive, and use fwcutter to install the new firmware?

Thanks for the help.

sure you can, but remember to get a V3 firmware since softmac works only with that and V4 is only for mac80211, then copy it on /lib/firmware

How will I be able to tell if it's V3 or V4 when I download? Can I also use wl_apsta.o?
