Recent WiFi issues

Postby Southern Gorilla » Sun Jan 05, 2014 15:53

Since the update before last I've had trouble with my Wi-Fi. It shows it's connected, but neither my browser nor e-mail client can access the web. I have to reset the connection to get back online. Sometimes it might be half an hour before I lose connection, sometimes it's only a few minutes. Either way it's aggravating. I've been running Sabayon for nearly a year with no trouble at all. This is a very recent issue that I'm at a loss to explain.

Here's the lsmod in case that helps.

Re: Recent WiFi issues

Not enough information to go on. Please also post the output of the commands (run as root user) lspci, lsusb, ifconfig and iwconfig. Also, who is the manufacturer of your machine, what is the model, and do you know the manufacturer and model of the WiFi card? Which version of SL are you using? Are you using 32-bit or 64-bit? Which DE (Desktop Environment) are you using? Are there any error messages in the /var/log/messages file (or whatever the log file is if you're using systemd instead of OpenRC)?

Wow! That's a bunch of stuff I had no idea I needed. I'll post it if the problem continues, but I think it turned out to be an issue with the W-Fi itself. Discovered that my phone was having the exact same problem with the internet. Wouldn't have posted this question if I had known that in advance. But I never use my phone for internet when I'm home. Anyhow, just did a hard reset of the Wi-Fi box this morning. We'll see if that resolves the issue. If not, I'll add that other information to the thread.

Just seemed odd that the problem started right after an update.
