blutooth adapter not found

Postby denijane » Wed Dec 11, 2013 17:09

Ok, a new problem. I just tried my blutooth and when I run the devil, it tells me "No adapter found" . I know I have one, it's "Alaska Day 2006"
I can see it in KInfo -> USB Devices -> xHCI Host Controller -> Bluetooth USB Host Controller
But it doesn't show in lsub and lspci. I'm posting the output:

Since it's a new laptop I have no idea if the blutooth adapter is working properly, so it's very important to test it and see if everything is ok.

Could you maybe install 'hwinfo' (with Rigo or from root console), pls and then type in a root console this, pls?
Code: Select all
hwinfo --bluetooth

This will give you a hint, that your bluetooth is at least supported by your Kernel.
You may get nothing or a complete list with many informations.
That you may use bluetooth then, this is another question.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. Here is the output from hwinfo:

I did a $modprobe btusb but the blutooth devil still say "No adapter found". So I have no idea what to do.

Ok, you seem to have a supported bluetooth hardware.
But, which DE (KDE, XFCE...) you run?
There is an open thread here, which describes the problem with 'KDE 4.11.3: Bluetooth adapter not found'.
There was given the solution to upgrade bluedevil and libbluedevil to latest (2.0_pre1) version, which at least make your hardware appears (could be found).
My hardware is found now, but I still can not connect between my notebook and phone yet. Others say, it works fine now.
So, try it yourself, pls, with a new reboot after upgrade.
Let me know, you'll have success or not, pls.

Hi!
Thanks for the suggestions. I was busy last week, but I finally upgraded the kernel to the latest (3.12.0). The KDE is 4.11.4. I also updated bluedevil and libbluedevil. But the bluetooth still doesn't work. I found the thread you mentioned and I noticed that while everything else matches the described, except that when I use bluetoothctl I get:
Code: Select all
$bluetoothctl
[bluetooth]# list
[bluetooth]# power on
No default controller available

Is that normal? Because I really have no way to test if the adapter works or not and since the laptop is a week old, if there is some kind of malfunctioning, now it's the time to act.
