MTS MBlaze USB modem not recognized [Solved]

Post by arpan » Tue Sep 03, 2013 17:35

Hi All,

I am new to Sabayon and I like the distro but currently struggling with some issues.

I have a MTS MBlaze USB dongle which works very smoothly with usb_modeswitch in any other distro, however in Sabayon 13.8 it is recognized as only Storage device.

It is identified ad 19d2:fff5 (usb storage) instead of 19d2:fff1. I tried all the options I could find from googling around but without any success.

As not able to connect to internet is very disappointing, I would like to try every possible solution/work-around before re-installing my old distro.

Can anybody help with this?

Thanks in advance!

I have a similar problem, however, another modem.

Code: Select all

sabayon-laptop lupo # lsusb | grep modem
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 12d1:1446 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E1552/E1800/E173 (HSPA modem)
sabayon-laptop lupo # ls -l /dev/ttyUSB*
zsh: no matches found: /dev/ttyUSB*
As a workaround I use the command.

Code: Select all

sabayon-laptop lupo # usb_modeswitch -c /usr/share/usb_modeswitch/12d1:1446 -v 12d1 -p 1446 > /dev/null
sabayon-laptop lupo # ls -l /dev/ttyUSB*
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 188, 0 сен 5 18:12 /dev/ttyUSB0
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 188, 1 сен 5 18:12 /dev/ttyUSB1
sabayon-laptop lupo #

Hi Lupo,

Thanks for the reply!

I tried same command with vendor and product ids for my device and it worked perfectly! :D

In case anybody else comes to this thread with same problem, the code I tried was:

Code: Select all

usb_modeswitch -c /usr/share/usb_modeswitch/19d2:fff5 -v 19d2 -p fff5
I removed redirection to /dev/null to see the output if it worked or not.

Once again, thanks a lot Lupo for helping out. :D

Cheers,
Arpan

This has come quite handy. I have been trying to increase comments on my site to get some search engine love.
