IPv6 support in UFW: do I need it? [Solved]

Postby Matte88 » Thu Mar 07, 2013 14:07

I saw that UFW has IPv6 support enabled and when I add rules using UFW's GUI, these rules have also IPv6 enabled.
Just an example: SSH.
I need to access this computer via SSH and once started the daemon I couldn't connect to Sabayon. Discovered that shutting down UFW I could then connect through SSH to Sabayon, so I opened ports in firewall, allowing incoming connections and selecting SSH from the dropdown menu. This action has given me two identical rules but one of them has IPv6 enalbed. Btw SSH connection is now working.

Do I need IPv6 in Firewall?
Yes <--- Why?
No <--- Why is eabled by default, then?

Thanks.

UFW was compiled with IPV6 support
https://packages.sabayon.org/show/ufw,9 ... -show-what

provide your /etc/ssh/sshd_config

Code: Select all
#Port 22
#AddressFamily any
#ListenAddress 0.0.0.0    <-- IPV4 Addr.
#ListenAddress ::             <-- All IPV6 addr. (uncomment to enable)

restart sshd daemon to load new config

SSH was only an example. The question is: do I need IPv6? No? Yes? Why?

IPv4 addr.s are exhausted .

in the near future it will be necessary since the "network" is growing

for your Italian provider see : http://www.dday.it/redazione/5269/IPv6- ... liani.html
