wireless error: SIOCSIFFLAGS: Unknown error 132

Postby Zunden » Sun Jan 24, 2010 9:26

well my wireless was working fine and then out of nowhere it just disconnected and it for some reason looked like the wireless card had been deactivated. so, naturally, i tried to activate it again with the wireless button but it didn't work this time and now for some reason my wireless card simply wont start up.

i use the Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG card

when i try ifconfig wlan0 up i get:

Code: Select all
SIOCSIFFLAGS: Unknown error 132

when i try /etc/init.d/net.wlan0 start i get:

Code: Select all
Bringing up interface wlan0
*   Starting wpa_supplicant on wlan0...
*   /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf not found                                    [ !! ]
* ERROR: net.wlan0 failed to start

i attempted to install wpa supplicant again but it made no difference...

i have also attempted to remove the iwl driver module with rmmod and add it again but it did not make any difference...

i googled the error 132 and found some posts saying this is a problem caused by rfkill...but i don't have rfkill and so the solution for those problems didn't help me..

my uname -a says:

Code: Select all
Linux Twitch 2.6.31-sabayon #1 SMP Sat Oct 31 13:12:14 UTC 2009 i686 Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2050 @ 1.60GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

dmesg says:

i use the Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG card

when i try ifconfig wlan0 up i get:

Code: Select all
SIOCSIFFLAGS: Unknown error 132

This is almost always caused by missing firmware. Make sure you have the relvant package installed.

when i try /etc/init.d/net.wlan0 start i get:

Code: Select all
Bringing up interface wlan0
*   Starting wpa_supplicant on wlan0...
*   /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf not found                                    [ !! ]
* ERROR: net.wlan0 failed to start

i attempted to install wpa supplicant again but it made no difference...

Well that is self explanatory, you have no wpa_supplicant.conf setup. It also not recommended to use /etc/init.d/net.* directly and to use a network manager app, such as NetworkManager or WICD which make it a lot easier.
