I re-purposed a partition I was using for storage and did a secondary install of v4.2k so the v5.0k is still there. If anyone has any suggestions of where to look for possible causes of the inability to access the internet using v5.0 I'd appreciate it.

The problem I'm experiencing isn't sabayon specific. I downloaded the opensuse 11.2 milestone 8 live iso and put it on a 1gb usb stick. Booted fine but it's unable to access the internet too. I'm downloading opensuse 11.1 live now and will try it as soon as it finishes downloading.

No luck with the opensuse live disks. This has me REALLY annoyed. Sabayon 4.2 k live disk and install are able to access the internet no problem with no configuration changes necessary but 5.0 g and k can't.

I am posting this using v4.2 with no changes to the network. It is still the same as it was when I loaded 5.0k. 4.2k can access the router info page and access the at&t dsl but v5.0 can't.

I think I have your same problem. Internet worked perfectly with sabayon 4.2 and I had the same settings. Nameserver is the router (192.168.168.1), but with sabayon 5 firefox just doesn't connect to webpages. I can ping websites and it resolves the hostnames.
Then I tried to use the provider DNS as nameserver and everything worked, however also the router should work as nameserver.

On the Planet Sabayon page the most recent item recommends updating the installer before performing an installation. Hoping this would be a possible solution to my v5 problems, I popped the disk into the dvd drive and started the install process. Unfortunately even at that point it's unable to access the internet. I get the red x and a message that the computer isn't connected to the internet. I guess I'll have to stick with v4.2 and hope that v5.1 has some sort of a solution to this problem.

I'm hoping this might help. I ran sabutil menu and copied the info from the hardware and dmesg selections and ran ifconfig and route -n for sabayon 4.2 and the live sabayon 5k on this computer. Additionally for 5.0k I ran a set of 20 pings of google and included the results. I can ping sites but can't connect. As you'll see sabutil was unable to submit the pastie info in 5.0k

Sabayon 4.2k sabutil hardware and dmesg, ifconfig, and route info
Sabayon 5.0k sabutil hardware and dmesg, ifconfig, and route info
Sabayon 5.0k google ping results

I'm posting this using the newly released Sabayon_Linix_5.1-r1_x86_K and if the install does this well I'll be able to mark this solved. I was never able to use my dsl with v5.0 and the lack of response had me doubting my future use of Sabayon.
