Wireless Suddenly stopped

Postby evilnone » Thu Jul 17, 2008 3:44

Ok when I installed sabayon 3.5 the wireless card was auto detected everything worked great. Recently for no apparent reason the wireless stopped auto connecting at bootup... no biggie I just would manually connect it every boot (2 clicks 5 seconds). Now it doesnt auto connect and when I click on my network it gets stuck at 28% starting the device... my work around for this is simple enough but annoying. If i quit KNetwork Manager and then open it back up it auto connects and works great (I am using the pc now). Is there any reason for this? anyone know anything? btw I am using a RALink wireless card so no windows drivers.

that's really quite odd, and I have no idea why it's happening, but I might have a workaround - create a file called ".xprofile" in your home directory. Put this in it:

/etc/init.d/NetworkManager restart

Might just work.

Or you could try an alternative to NetworkManager: wicd (http://wicd.sourceforge.net/)
An ebuild can be found in the sunrise overlay and my (x86) repo contains a package for entropy (http://users.telenet.be/brulee/)
My repo is not yet listed on the wiki, but you can use the few packages already by adding the following line to your '/etc/entropy/repositories.conf'
Code: Select all
repository|brulee|XFCE oriented repository|http://users.telenet.be/brulee|http://users.telenet.be/brulee#bz2

I heard a couple of success stories with wicd where NetworkManager failed. I myself have it now installed for 3 days to test it. It seems to be stable so far, but so was NetworkManager in my case.
