Dell Wireless 1395

Postby jpoke89 » Mon Jul 14, 2008 9:08

I have a Dell Inspiron 1721, and it came with a Dell Wireless 1395 wireless card in it. By default, the card does not function on either Sabayon 3.5 or (K)Ubuntu Hardy Heron. In both OS's I tried the ndiswrapper thing, and both OS's failed using their respective tutorials (I was using the Broadcom tutorials, as I think it's a Broadcom card). I am epically confused and I think I broke Ubuntu, and for sure broke Sabayon... I had to reinstall the latter. Any help, or a nudge in the right direction would be loverly.

giving us an lspci and an iwconfig and an lsmod would help a good deal - it's not uncommon for wireless cards that aren't quite broadcom to use their chipset, so you may have the right drivers for your card.

Hello,

I have a Dell 1420 that uses this same DELL 1395 wireless card. lspci sees it as a broadcom 4310 card.
And i havent run into a distribution that recognizes it out-of-the-box. You have to ndiswrap it!

Here is the link to the win xp driver that worked for me with Ndiswrapper

http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R174291.exe
and use the bcmwl5.inf from DRIVER_US dir

Hope it works for you!

I have a Gateway mt6451 --- it uses the broadcom 43xx card. that is the same as the 1395 ( i have used the dell drivers in winxp).

It works on 3.5 release. right out of the box.

I had no trouble... this is the first distro that this has happened.

I have a Vostro 1000 with Dell Wireless 1395 (WPA2) and it didn't work out of the box with v3.5 64bit.
Now I'm stuck with XP again for months (yes I used Sab for a long long time on a desktop PC and I miss it) :(

I have a small problem with ndiswrapper....
I have to type "modprobe ndiswrapper" manually after each reboot.

I've tried to add the module to /etc/conf.d/modules, like:
module="ndiswrapper" (adding arguments like "modprobe" didn't help either)

...but that didn't help.
Anyone has the solution ?

For some reason, /etc/modules.autoload.d/ is gone since v3.5

Greetings,
Amp

I just entered "modprobe ndiswrapper" (without quotes) in /etc/conf.d/modules like I would do in the terminal and finally it works at boot :)
(so simple after all)

SOLVED
