Ok so I was ashamed that I didn't know how to do this anymore so I taught myself.

Code: Select all
nano /etc/conf.d/modules

add ndsiwrapper to the line that says

Code: Select all
# Modules autoloaded at boot
modules_2_6="foo bar blah ndsiwrapper"

Yeah... I got b43 to finally stop loading and according to dmesg, ndiswrapper loads... However... "sudo modprobe ndiswrapper" still doesn't do anything...

Here is dmesg:

I've heard dreadful things about b43... besides, before I blacklisted it bcmwl5 wouldn't work...

And yes I did try an "ndiswrapper -l", it says that bcmwl5 is installed and that it detects my card...

seems from that quote that you don't quite understand what is going on here. bcmwl5 WILL ALWAYS not work with b43, bcmwl5 is merely the firmware that ndiswrapper uses to operate the wireless chip. And you've been highly misinformed. B43 is by far better than ndiswrapper as it's a native solution rather than a dirty hack.

And yes I did try an "ndiswrapper -l", it says that bcmwl5 is installed and that it detects my card...

what does it REALLY say.
please post the output.

Here is the output of "ndiswrapper -l"

Code: Select all
bcmwl5 : driver installed
device (14E4:4328) present (alternate driver: ssb)

BTW I made a silly mistake... I meant that b43 wouldn't work before I blacklisted it...

In addition, according to the Gentoo wiki b43 is "untested" with my card... so it is possible that b43 is incompatible with my card...

Ahh ha just as I suspected. Your fscked! see that alternative driver:ssb that means that ndiswrapper has been taken over by b43 driver.

Do this for me:

uname -a

eix -v b43-fwcutter
