Oops sorry Dad. HA! Best troubleshooting EVER!

Let me guess teenagers...

hmmm, why indeed does that obstinate WAP demand using WEP, well because it was programmed to!

Damn computers, only do what they are told. :pirat:

I'd hate to be on the other end of the nascent phone call I feel approaching . . .

ROFL! Good one :P

But still, I'm left wondering why the heck my wireless didn't work and I'm pretty sure no1 changed the encryption 8)

Maybe changes to linux-sabayon-2.6.25 after the issue of SL 3.5 Loop 3-r1 (see DontPanic's earlier post in this thread) have caused problems in your case, rather than improved things, Tiago?

By the way, I think I now know why my very first attempt at building the 2.6.25 kernel killed all wireless. I think it was because I used the zcat command, which created a config file based on the running kernel on my laptop at the time, which was the 2.6.22 kernel. In subsequent attempts at building the 2.6.25 kernel I used the .config file in /usr/src/linux-2.6.25-sabayon/.config, which is different from the .config file for the SL 2.6.22 kernel.

Despite having built a 2.6.25 kernel that provides a working iwlwifi (iwl3945), I am finding that all is not perfect with the new driver. Ironically I am having some trouble with unencrypted networks now, although that may be due to the latest version of NetworkManager for all I know. Once I can write down a few of the error messages I'm seeing when trying to access unsecured networks in airports and hotels, I think I'll create a new thread about what I'm experiencing.

Actually I'm unsure if it has anything to do with the kernel... The same problem happened to me again so I concluded it had to do with something else. I executed the /etc/init.d/net.wlan0 -d restart command and found out that there was some problem it the infamous wpa_supplicant. I deleted some files (I cannot remember which) that handled the wpa configuration for that interface and now everything is working like a charm.

What strikes me as odd is the fact that this happened when there was a problem with the electricity and everything went down for a couple of minutes. When the electricity got back and the router restarted I could find my network but couldn't connect to it for some reason. My guess is that NetworkManager didn't disconnect properly from the network and left some configuration files lost in my system and when I erased them everything went back to normal...
