ndiswrapper success story failure with iwconfig

Postby tismealso » Wed Feb 20, 2008 19:46

Hello All, I just managed to wrap the xp driver for my belkin wireless g card following the insructions on the ndiswrapper home page *until* I use iwconfig at which point my card is still not listed. would really appreciate some help at this point. I am fairly resourceful not a total newb but not used to sabayon or gentoo and have never set up my system for wireless before.

ndiswrapper -l
blkwgdv7 : driver installed
device (1799:700F) present

this indicates that ndiswrapper has got the driver okay I think. thanks in advance for any advice you will be able to offer.

there is no sign of it....

I wish I could cut and paste but the wifi is my net connection (permission granted) and I am using a W$ laptop to do this post...I am sure there is no ndiswrapper here.

so I go on and do an ndiswrapper -m
module configuration already contains alial directive.

I have restarted since, same results no joy.

okay so now I tried

modprobe ndiswrapper

and my output from lsmod now contains ndiswrapper !!

I thought ndiswrapper -m did this step for me, I will look up what it actually does. BUT I still cant detect a wireless card (KWIFI manaager), so a restart the machine. and lsmod does not contain ndiswrapper.

ahhhhhhhhhhh found the problem.

dmesg reveals that the driver is 32 bit and my kernel is 64 bit.... bad magic.

do you know if there is a suitable alternative?

first you will need to put an "ndiswrapper" in

/etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6

Look you are tripping over yourself here.

first modprobe ndiswrapper

then do a

/etc/init.d/hald restart

then wait a little bit and knetworkmanager should pick up wireless networks, it should not have anything to do with the 32 bit driver vs 64 bit machine.

first of all appologies for the duplicate post, I thought I had hit a new thread.

I have re-installed the 32 bit driver in ndiswrapper and then used modprobe I have tried the restart that you recomend and waited but in the words of douglass adams, first nothing happened, then nothing continued to happen.

my message from dmesg is back telling me that ndiswrapper couldnt be loaded, if this is nothing to do with it I think it is very misleading.

I am out of ideas at this point I will keep reading up but if you have any more suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.
