Linksys WUSB54Gv4 no workie

Postby dinqua » Sat Jan 12, 2008 21:37

Ok, first post, total newbie here with linux, been windoze/mac many years though.
I loaded the 3.5 fine, however no matter what I do the stupid wireless will not connect. I can see it, it shows signal streggth, the wpa supplicant seesi it for a minute or so until; it quits trying to associate. It works fine in windoze but no go with Sabayon 3.5
I have read hours upon hours of stuff that does not make much sense to me. Can someone please assist with this?
I HAVE looked through the wiki stuff, the how to's, the various links here but I cannot get this part to work.
Help please!
This is a usb wireless card by the way.

Thanks for any help,
Pat

See here http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_wusb54gv4
Also, the rt2500usb driver does not work with this card -- so if the instructions above don't help, try
rmmod rt2500usb
(I don't know if Sabayon includes this driver or not)

To tell the truth, I seldom boot into my Sabayon installs -- I generally use Mepis.
I did make an error in my previous post -- it should say
rmmod rt2500usb
As for the needed rt2570 module, I don't know --
It looks like there should be an ebuild
net-wireless/rt2570
http://gentoo-portage.com/net-wireless/rt2570
http://www.vi.kernel.org/pub/mirrors/ge ... 570/files/
I don't know why you are not finding it.
Did you do
emerge --sync && layman -S sabayon
??

No, because I have no idea what that is, and I do not recognize the odd symbol as well.

I can see it trying to connect, it lists the wireless router ID correctly, the mac address, the protocol but keeps "trying to associate" for about a minute then it ereases everything and it is no longer viewable until; I tell the network manager to connect.
Then I see it again but it will not connect - it goes to 28% and stays there until it quits and erases everything.
If I do an iwconfig while it is trying to associate, all the data s in the iwconfig file that should be there, then that all goes away as welll once it gives up associating.
This is driving me nuts, everyone said it is simple plug and play with Sabayon but I am getting really frustrated at this point.

Just what is this emerge -- sync ** layman -S sabayon caoomand do? is it typed exactly as written above? What is the odd symbol?
Thanks for your patience.
I'll buy you several cold ones...

the double ampersand is used to connect 2 commands -- you can type them separately like this

emerge --sync
layman -S sabayon

these 2 commands bring your package ebuilds up to date, so you can install the latest packages.

Bump for this. . .

I have downloaded the latest drivers, and would like some help compiling and installing them on S3.5b2.

I tried extracting, changing to the folder and doing the Make, sudo make install, etc. but received a few errors.

Does Sabayon come with everything necessary to install the new drivers while running the live cd?
