Install problem Sabayon 14.08 on ACER E3-111

Post by Peter » Tue Sep 16, 2014 19:25

Attempting to install Sabayon 14.08 x86 Gnome from DVD on a brand new Acer E3-111 that currently has only Windows 8.1 installed.

I have disabled UEFI as it doesn't seem to recognise the USB-connected DVD drive with it set. I get the initial Sabayon install screen and whether I choose 'Start Sabayon' or 'Installation', I next get the message,

[ 0.379716] pnp 00:09: can't evaluate _CRS: 1
[ 2.780814] goldfish_pdev_bus goldfish_pdev_bus: unable to reserve Goldfish MMIO

and then it hangs.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

What is the hardware specification of that laptop? What GPU(s) does it have?

I assume you have created a partition for Linux on the laptop? Or do you want to overwrite the Windows 8.1 partition with Linux?

Press F5 when the SL LiveDVD boot menu appears, then Esc to clear the pop-up list of boot parameters to append to the kernel boot line, then edit the kernel boot line to remove the "---" and the "vga=791" and add to the end of the line "xdriver=vesa". Then hit Enter and see if that gets you further.
