Only root prompt on Sabayon 14.08 KDE Installation [Solved]

Post by Garisoain » Sun Aug 17, 2014 1:23

Not the first Sabayon I installed, but this time I'm not being able to make it. This is happening when using either a DVD with the ISO burned (and verified), and also with the ISO installed to an USB stick with UUI.

After selecting to start the LiveOS or to Install, I always end up with a root autologin and the root prompt in pink.

In between I see 3 sets of 3 strange characters in the middle of the screen changing from gray to white, like they were some sort of progress bar...

Motherboard GA-A75M-UD2H Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
Processor AMD A8-3850 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics, 2900 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
BIOS Version/Date Award Software International, Inc. F5, 03/11/2011
SMBIOS Version 2.4
Hardware Abstraction Layer Version = "6.1.7601.17514"
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 8.00 GB
DVD-RAM HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22NP20 SATA CdRom Device
VIDEO AMD Radeon HD 6550D
HD1: Maxtor 6 V160E0 SATA Disk Device 149.05 GB (160,039,272,960 bytes)
HD2: ST332062 0AS SATA Disk Device 298.09 GB (320,070,320,640 bytes)

I have tried the following boot options:

1. Adding ATI cheat code to the boot string on both options with no change.
2. Tried

Code: Select all

systemctl restart kdm
on root prompt, to end on black screen.
3. Tried xdriver=vesa on the boot options, still get the root prompt.

I'm attaching a pic of the end of dmesg message from root prompt. http://i.imgur.com/Oy2XQ7O.jpg

Thank you guys for your help!!!

Did you try doing both? Set the xdriver=versa parameters and then when you get the prompt again run the #systemctl restart kdm command. I outlined how I set the boot parameters here: viewtopic.php?f=50&t=31925

Thanx hannibal806, but I added xdriver=versa to the boot parameters, got the root prompt (on smaller, more "graphic" font), tried #systemctl restart kdm, and I got only a black screen with the cursor on the top-left corner.

Switched tty with Alt-F2/F3/F4/etc... tried again the command, and got the same result.

Still no GUI and no option to install.

DUH... hehehehe xdriver=vesa, then #systemctl restart kdm, and I got to the GUI.

Thanks a lot!!! =( This one is solved for me, tho it would be nice that it worked without these tricks...
