Laptop resets while booting with LiveDVD [Solved]

Post by Freier Radikaler » Tue Jun 24, 2014 14:42

[email protected],

my ASUS Laptop with AMD A10 and Radeon HD8670M performs a reset after X trys to come up. The Laptop is brand new so I guess there is no hardware defekt. Older versions of Sabayon reproduce the exactly same error. I can prevent starting up X so I get a command prompt. The touchpad couln'd be enabled too according to the kernel message. There seems to be something broken too...

Is there a method to install sabayon from command line? :?

Yes. Type "installer" at the root command prompt. Although, if you are having trouble with the LiveDVD, you could well have trouble with the installed OS too. What hardware does that laptop contain? You can check by using the lspci command.

I just startet the laptop with Sabayon Linux 11 and vesa xorg-driver. This works fine... Is there a easy posibility to force vesa on the current liveDVD 14.05?

If you can boot the LiveDVD and get to the boot menu, press the F5 function key and append "xdriver=vesa" (without the quotes) to the kernel boot parameters, then hit the Enter key.

xdriver=vesa leads to a black screen with a white "_" in the upper left corner after X-Server started.

I was able to start Sabayon Linux 11 with doing X -configure und replacing the xorg.conf with vesa. So I was able to install Sabayon Linux 11.0. But after all upgrades were made the system doesn't came up anymore. I assume because of the major openrc -> systemd crap.
So I have get the newer install cds working to install sabayon linux with systemd directly. Any ideas? Why is vesa for older sabayon livecds working? But new ones don't?

I don't know, as I don't have your hardware. I'd still be interested to see the output of the lspci command (you can re-direct it to a file from the command line and copy it to a pen drive to port to the machine you are using to post here), as you may have an on-board APU as well, which might be interfering.

Have a read through all the posts in the following threads, as they may give you some ideas what to look for or try:

Just re-read your first post and realised I had missed your mention of the A10 APU. Can you disable it via the BIOS? Maybe if you only have the GPU enabled then the LiveDVD could work out the correct video driver to load. The other things to try are xdriver=ati and xdriver=radeon. Have you tried those?

None of these xdriver options are working. Always black screen. Is there a way to install sabayon via console? Why are older Sabayon LiveDVDs able to start X with vesa and newer ones don't? :x

Here is the lspci output:

Finally got it working:

1. Booting to console mode.
2. rmmod psmouse (optional)
3. X -configure
4. cp /root/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf
5. systemctl start kdm
