13.08 can't find nvidia during install

Post by leobing » Fri Aug 16, 2013 4:10

I have an HP Pavillion Desktop with triple cpu and 3 gigs ram with 6.4 gig hd.
I downloaded and burnt a dvd with Sabayon 13.08.
During install it gives several screens of repeated text saying it can't find nvidia hardware.
Here is my LSPCI

Can someone tell what to look for or is there a quick fix.?
I am thinking my built-in video card may be quite old and maybe this version of Sabayon does not have the right version for my card.
Any ideas you might like to suggest will be appreciated.

Can you advise the type/model of your pc (does it actually has an Nvidia graphic card and which type)

I doubt you have an Nvidia card, Nvidia used to deliver chipsets too aside from their GPU untill they ran into problems with Intel.
The information you show is just the chipset information.

My PC is an HP Pavillion. it has AMD Phenom 64 shown on the front and shows NVIDIA graphics. It is a triple core with 3 gigs ram and 2 scsi 320 drives. If you are asking if it has a physical Video card, I don't see one so I suppose it is just a chip or so on the mother board. There is a socket that would take a video card but is empty. I don't know how to find out what the video is so I am stuck. When I put the 13.8 DVD in and boot it I get the continually repeated message about not find the NVIDIA Thing. I forget the exact words but it is something like that. I have Sabayon 13.8 running perfectly on my two lap tops but they both have ATI video. Thanks. leo Bing

I think, you have an nvidia graphics adaptor.
Could you pls install 'lshw' (Hardware lister) with Rigo and after install then type as root:

Code: Select all

lshw -class display
You should receive something like that:

Code: Select all

*-display
       description: VGA compatible controller
product: 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller
       vendor: Intel Corporation
       physical id: 2
       bus info: [email protected]:00:02.0
       version: 09
       width: 64 bits
       clock: 33MHz
       capabilities: msi pm vga_controller bus_master cap_list rom
       configuration: driver=i915 latency=0
       resources: irq:44 memory:c0000000-c03fffff memory:b0000000-bfffffff ioport:2000(size=64)
Let us know your output pls. Thank you.
