Upgrading from 6 to 7 [Solved]

Postby msdobrescu » Tue Oct 11, 2011 18:17

Hello,

One month ago I've met Sabayon for the first time.
I've got Sabayon 6 K, and now I've installed Gnome too.
Now, what's the recommended upgrade path? Entropy/Sulfur, equo or CD?

Thanks.

Sabayon is a Rolling Release, so after you have done an

Code: Select all
equo update

followed by

Code: Select all
equo upgrade

and there's nothing more to install you are already at Sabayon 7!

Is it possible that not all mirrors to be upgraded?

Code: Select all
equo upgrade

No, don't think so.

Do

Code: Select all
equo search sabayon-skel

If you have "sabayon-skel-7-r3" installed, congrats you have a fully updated Sabayon 7!

Is there any other way to check that?
Do logon and splash screens look different from 6?

Code: Select all
equo search sabayon-skel

This package was only one example of many ways to check where you stand with your installation. Believe me you have Sabayon 7 already. I would say already for some days. The sabayon-skel-7 package for example is on my system for at least two weeks now. No other logo, no other splash screen. Everything that's on the Sabayon 7 iso were there already on the Sabayon Mirrors before the actual release...

Confusing...
The announcement was indeed made much later than my last libstdc++ upgrade (by about a week).
I would also expect to have more fuss before such event occurs, and new art for a major new release version.
So, I'm a happy Sabayon 7 user already   :salut: .

I've never seen such smooth transition, you know, and this is so cool!

Yes, that's a one of the big advantages of Sabayon. The sabayon-skel-package is a good way to see the road to the next version.
So someday when you see something like "sabayon-skel-8" in your upgrade list, you'll know "Ok, transition to next Sabayon-Version has begun"...

I had the same doubt. I'm using xfce and I didn't know that my Sabayon was already upgraded to 7 till now.

But, why /etc/sabayon-edition and/or /etc/sabayon-release files are not updated?

Code: Select all
$ cat /etc/sabayon-edition /etc/sabayon-release
Sabayon Linux 6 x86 XFCE
Sabayon Linux x86 6

/etc/sabayon-edition is not supposed to be updated, it shows your original Sabayon version (the one you used for your installation), about /etc/sabayon-release file, see these posts:
