4.2 32bit version is not an iso [Solved]

Postby littlegrey » Sat Aug 22, 2009 15:05

I downloaded the 32bit version of sabayon 4.2 kde which said it was an iso. When I looked at the download it was a zip file. When I unzipped it, it was just files and folders not an iso image. I tried burning it to cd both as a data disk and then as a bootable disk using a Windows XP burning application. When I tried booting off the cd it would not boot. What am I doing wrong. The 64bit download was an iso which I have successfully burned and installed on a 64bit machine using the same Windows XP burning application. I need a 32bit version for a 32bit machine I have.

Download from a different mirror
Here is a link to Sabayon mirrors
http://www.sabayonlinux.org/mirrors
The iso image is 1.8 gigabyte and is not a zip file and don't forget to check the md5 before burning

Or you could try the Italian mirror (I downloaded the 32bit version of sabayon 4.2 kde from here)
http://na.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/sabayonlinux/
Desktop ASUS M2N-MX SE Plus, AMD 64 X2 Dual Core 5200, 4 Gb RAM, GeForce 9500 1GB
Notebook HP CQ61-311AX, AMD CPU M320, 4 Gb RAM, Radeon HD 4300 512 MB
Wireless AR9285, Audio ATI SBx00 (IDT 92hd75B2x5)
Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once!

pending on file association, it may see your iso as a zip file. Look at the full file name with extension to verify and burn image

most likely your winrar or other zip software is set up to open such files. just open it with an iso burner, or uncheck a lot of the file association in your zip software.

Thanks all. I guess I had a bad download. I tried another mirror and ran the md5 and it check ok. I burn it without problems. Sometimes I get a little lazy and trusted the first download. Consider this case closed.
