Yup fairly easy and there should be a guide for this in the wiki top right of this page.

You could use if coming from another linux just edit the grub / lilo and let it loop mount the iso + boot from it more or less what the live cd / dvd does with the squashfs.image and what most linux first part of boot does = mount a image and boot from it even if small kernel image same idea.

Will ahve to search for my notes on this + grub or it should be in the forums using the search or Wolfdens firefox furms search plug-in.

Wiki linked one:

Hi.

I had follow exactly this guide (exept I have latest testversion) http://wiki.sabayonlinux.org/index.php? ... _The_Image,
but after booting I receive message: Filename must be either an absolute pathname or blocklist. What's frong, or should I change something?

Antonius:

I've used that method, and it has worked OK for me.

Let's confirm some of the easy ones first....

Were you installing this to sda4 (which is the example in the HowTo)?

If not, did you adjust all the references to sda4 accordingly?

Also, did you adjust the "root (hd0,3)" line in the grub entry accordingly?

I just make little slip in menu.lst: initrd boot/sabayon.igz (must be initrd /boot/sabayon.igz). And it works.
Question: it is necessary to copy all files from /mnt/iso/boot/ to /boot?
(sorry my very bad English language).

You may not need memtest when booting with this method (you are explicitly skipping it), but the other two files in the boot directory are needed, I'm pretty sure.

If you don't have a working version of linux installed, you can also use vmware server to install linux directly on your harddrive. you can mount iso images as a cdrom in vmware. The advantage of this in my opinion is dat I have a working OS (win XP in my case) while I'm installing the new OS.

I use this method because I don't have a cd writer in my laptop.

I am new to the forum, but not to Sabayon. I just purchased an Eee PC for my girlfriend and wanted to install Sabayon 3.5 before giving it to her.

It would be great if there was a a flash drive or SD card install guide, something other than http://wiki.sabayonlinux.org/index.php? ... _The_Image

I think this would really fit in with the user experience ideology here and at the same time, help to make Sabayon 3.5 the distro of choice for those looking to dump the default Xandros without resorting to *buntu or Windoze.

I have a feeling I am going to be the one doing the write up but if anyone else can help (or at least point me in the right direction) I would really appreciate it.

Her birthday is July 11th and I will probably be boxing up the Eee PC a day or so beforehand so time is of the essence =)

Thanks in advance!
