Professional edition 1.1 x86_64 and ipw3945 [Solved]

Postby sjieke » Wed Oct 24, 2007 7:01

Yesterday I downloaded the new professional edition (64 bit version) and installed it. Looking at the packages it was just wath I needed.
The only problem is my wireless is not recognized. Neither in the LiveDVD or after installation to disk. I find this very strange because in all other versions of sabayon my wireless is detected properly. I looked at the kernel configuration but it seemed ok and recompiled it. Also the packages for the ipw3945d deamon etc seemed to be ok, but still my wireless card is not recognized. If I use iwconfig it's not listed. I can't seem to find what's the difference with the other sabayon releases concerning my wirless card. I failed to find a solution so I reinstalled the 3.4 mini and I'm facing the task of reverting back to the stable branch. Maybe some of you guys know a solution so I can use the Professional edition or maybe this is a bug?

Greetings
Sjieke

ok first of all you should post a dmesg after you've give a /etc/init.d/ipw3945d restart, let me know

Ok,
I will do that as soon as I get home from work. Do I need to install on disk first (I installed the mini again to have a working system with wireless) or is running from the LiveDVD and giving the info also sufficient?

I'm having the same problem here with Professional edition 1.1 and an intel 4965 draft-N. i.e. no wireless card detected. Works fine under 3.4e though - in fact it's the only distro I've tried in which the wifi is rock solid using this card. Most others I've tried have had seemingly random intermittent connection problems. Currently downloading 3.4f to see how that works out. Intrigued by this whole Portege thing - printing off the Gentoo Handbook for a look-see.

can you see it's up? try running again ipw3945d
Code: Select all
/etc/init.d/ipw3945d restart && rc-update ipw3945d add default

Just after boot I get for dmesg
Code: Select all
[  111.614724] ipw3945: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945 Network Connection driver for Linux, 1.2.0mpr
[ 111.614728] ipw3945: Copyright(c) 2003-2006 Intel Corporation
[ 111.615437] ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:05:00.0[A] -> GSI 18 (level, low) -> IRQ 18
[ 111.615451] PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:05:00.0 to 64
[ 111.616463] ipw3945: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection

The I run the code you provided:
Code: Select all
/etc/init.d/ipw3945d restart && rc-update ipw3945d add default

and dmesg gives me:
Code: Select all
[  111.614724] ipw3945: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945 Network Connection driver for Linux, 1.2.0mpr
[ 111.614728] ipw3945: Copyright(c) 2003-2006 Intel Corporation
[ 111.615437] ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:05:00.0[A] -> GSI 18 (level, low) -> IRQ 18
[ 111.615451] PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:05:00.0 to 64
[ 111.616463] ipw3945: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection

So nothing changed. Nothing was added to dmesg.
