What do I do with a delta?

Postby bowenit » Tue Oct 16, 2007 1:28

it says it's supposed to send my copy of Sabayon from 3.4e to 3.4f. It is some sort of compressed ISO that the file is around 135 MB

The official xdeltas are over 350MB, so if the one you have is 130MB, I guess you're using the unofficial xdelta3 I made (did you get it on linuxtracker?). Wolfden's link won't really help you in that case, since that wiki page explains the procedure for the official ones.

Get xdelta version 3. I'm a total gentoo noob, but searching the package version number and modifying the first step in wolfden's link... You probably need:
Code: Select all
emerge =dev-util/xdelta-3.0-r1

Next step, patch:
Code: Select all
xdelta3 -dvv -s SabayonLinux-x86_64-3.4e.iso sl-x86_64-3.4e-to-3.4f.iso.xd3 SabayonLinux-x86_64-3.4f.iso

That's all!

I guessed you have the 64-bit version based on the xdelta filesize you mentioned. If you have the 32-bit version, just replace x86_64 with x86.

Does that mean I need the full 3.4e iso?

Do you still have the burned CD?
Code: Select all
dd if=/dev/cdrom of=SabayonLinux-x86_64-3.4e.iso

Then follow the rest of the instructions. Again, my instructions assumed it's the 64-bit version; replace with x86 on filenames as required.
