Complete upgrade? NOT complete or up to date

Postby konstk » Wed Sep 05, 2007 11:27

What's the purpose of "complete upgrade"? It didn't upgrade anything to the latest versions like for example mozilla is now at ver 2.0.0.3 whereas before it was 2.0.0.6
And it used "emerge --usepkg-only --usepkg" to upgrade everything so it didn't compile anything.
Plus on an unrelated note bootup hangs at "Loading keymaps"

Are there plans for it to do magic in the future? :P

konstk, the versions of firefox and everything on that DVD were 100% up to date as to when the DVD came out. It's been out for a while now. If you had downloaded and installed it right when it came out, you would have been completely up to date.

I thought from the description that the "complete upgrade" selection was supposed to compile the latest versions of the packages on the dvd. It took almost 20 hours but it was just installing precompiled packages from I don't even know where cause the total network downloads didn't show any downloads for anything.

What is "complete upgrade" supposed to do anyway?

Everything it installs is from the DVD. It doesn't download anything.

Complete upgrades look at your system, uninstalls applications that are on the DVD and then installs what's on the DVD.
If you ask around, most people will tell you that it's faster to just backup files you want to save and to do a fresh install over what you've got, because the upgrade has to do a lot of analyzing.
