Gnome AMD64 daily builds fail to boot

Post by aspedisca » Thu Oct 18, 2018 2:51

Dear devs,
I tried to install Sabayon on two laptops today but no matter what, the downloaded daily gnome iso images fail with Dracut error and the stable builds are too old and kernel panic after the proper upgrade. Are you aware of the daily build boot failures?

What do you suggest?
Thank in advance.

I have tried the KDE daily versions serveral times and that had the same problem so I gave up and used 18.05, updated it from the command line and manually installed the lastest kernel. I have a Ryzen notebook and it doesnt like 4.14 at all but runs fine on 4.18

I did the kernel switch after update but got kernel panic. But it was such a waste of time an resources until i realized it was not my fault. I hope someone realize the problem and fix it. I sense the support on sabayon is exponentially decreasing.

I agree that one can install a version and install updates later. However, it is still disturbing that the daily builds fail to boot. Hope one of the devs read this forum one day.

I also agree that I have experienced the same issue on at least 5 different computers.

Is there a solution to this kernel problem so far? I have an Alienware 15R3 and no matter what I did, I still have kernel panic error since an update I did few weeks ago.

Are you sure you have a really kernel-panic or just dracut issue ?

If dracut issue occured you can try to wait for a while and then the system goes to start... then you can fix reistalling the kernel . The new initramfs will be generated.
