Wireless issues after KDE 4.4 update

With KDE 4.4, we had to drop the old Plasma-based Network Manager tool, you must install knetworkmanager or nm-applet (GNOME)

Entropy update required

If you are having download problems, they may be caused by your Entropy version not up-to-date. You can solve this by updating Entropy this way: equo update && equo install entropy equo --nodeps && equo upgrade

This led to a bit of a chicken-and-egg problem where without knetworkmanager installed I couldn't connect to the Internet to install knetworkmanager. Thought I'd just pass along that I had to stop NetworkManager before iwconfig would work.

Code: Select all

/etc/init.d/NetworkManager stop
iwconfig wlan0 essid MyNetwork
HP dv6000t
SabayonLinux 5.5 - x86_64

repositories.conf URLs change, if you can no longer access the repos than you need to update your config file

Open Terminal
1. as user type su and enter root password
2. cd /etc/entropy/
3. mv /etc/entropy/repositories.conf /etc/entropy/repositories.old
4. wget repositories.conf http://wolf911.us/sabayon/files/repositories.conf
5. equo update

Installed 5.1 Gnome from ISO. Everything works except package manager. I want VNC and an updated version of XBMC and I didn't want to dick around spending hours trying to build and install manually.
Run the command: "equo update && equo install entropy equo --nodeps && equo upgrade" in terminal, and the entire system seems to update. Afterwards everything appears to be fine. Upon reboot, no wireless network devices available. I do not use KDE at all, strictly Gnome.

Running the mentioned commands in terminal:
/etc/init.d/NetworkManager stop
iwconfig wlan0 essid MyNetwork
This did absolutely nothing, since my wireless adapter is no longer present...

12 hours later, I'm gonna give this one more shot, but this time leave out the "upgrade" and run:
equo update && equo install entropy equo --nodeps
Lets see if that works...

*Update
So after several failed procedures I have a half solution that kinda works...

su
modprobe b43
iwconfig wlan0 essid ROUTERNAME

or something that seems to also work:
sudo modprobe b43

After this the light for my Broadcom 4306 turns on and network manager kicks in.

What can I do to automate this so that Sabayon hits the b43 module prior to the log on screen?
