ok but what is the reason for so many different versions?

Why not just create 1 version. The 3.4f version can be considered as a business version because it has business applications. If the user doesn't want games they just don't install it.

Also openoffice are up 2.3 and why does the professional 1.1 still contains openoffice 2.2.

So is the professional version suppose to replace th 3.4f?

you didn't read about it I suppose...
1) packages are different
2) branches are different
3) only stable packages on PE
4) 2.2 is explained since openoffice 2.3 was still on unstable branch at the time of compiling time

This name change is causing all sorts of headaches in IRC. People are mistaking Pro as meaning more functional and more features. So without any research at all they fall back to their pavlovian microsoft training and grab the "obviously" superior pro version. Shortly thereafter they show up for help trying to get what they thought they were getting working.

I realize that a little research on their part could have saved them and those of us in #sabayon a lot of frustration, however due to the previously mentioned brainwashing over what Pro means, the name can easily be misconstrued.

Thanks

I think the best thing is to integrate 3.4f with the Pro Edition 1.1 and come up with one stabled version! The mini edition is good to have just in case people don't want the fill version.

I really don't get having these 2 versions. Professional edition is suppose to be more stable. Well I installed it and my sound didn't work which I had to run alsaconf. Then afater that every boot I had to run the alsaconf.

I find the boot up takes long compared to other distro or even comparing it to 3.4f.

Right now I am running ubuntu but Sabayon is the second distro in my list if i were ever to change. I hope the 3.5 version will be better.

Code: Select all
Well I installed it and my sound didn't work which I had to run alsaconf.

As far as i know some sound issues are found and fixed.
Did you update-installer (icon on the live desktop) before you've installed it?
