I don't know of any chess clocks in the Entropy or Portage repositories, but a good chess clock is VCC (Virtual Chess Clock). Installing directly rather than via the package manager should be the last resort and I don't normally recommend it, so I suggest you file a request for VCC to be built and added to the Entropy repositories. However, if you are in a hurry, it can be built from source easily as follows (see the file INSTALL in the vcc directory for full installation instructions):

1. Download the tarball virtual-chess-clock-1.6.0-Source.tar.gz from the VCC Web site.
2. Extract the tarball to a directory vcc in your home directory (e.g. /home/mrizzone/vcc).
3. Open a Konsole/Terminal window and enter the following commands:

Code: Select all
$ su
Password: <-- Enter the root user's password.
# cd /home/mrizzone/vcc
# equo install cmake gtkmm gettext
# chmod +x configure
# ./configure
# make
# make install
# exit

To launch vcc you would do the following under your own user account:

Code: Select all
$ vcc

You could of course create an entry for it in the GUI application menu of the desktop environment you are using.

EDIT: Actually, after rebooting I found that an entry for Virtual Chess Clock had been added to the Games sub-menu of Xfce's Applications Menu.

EDIT: Updated to include chmod command.

Click on the link 'Bugs' at the top right of this page and file a request to add the package there.

You're welcome. I'll update my earlier post to include the command to change the permissions of the script. Please do file a request to add the package to the Entropy repositories for the benefit of others.
