Quake3 fails despite all .pk3 datafiles present [Solved]

Post by nobicycle » Tue Mar 12, 2013 16:08

Hi,
running quake3, I get:

Code: Select all

ioq3 1.36 linux-x86_64 Nov 13 2010
----- FS_Startup -----
Current search path:
/home/user/.q3a/baseq3
/usr/share/games/quake3/baseq3

----------------------
0 files in pk3 files
"pak0.pk3" is missing. Please copy it from your legitimate Q3 CDROM. Point Release files are missing. Please re-install the 1.32 point release. Also check that your ioq3 executable is in the correct place and that every file in the "baseq3" directory is present and readable
Which seems to contain 4 sub-errors: 1.pak0 missing. 2.Point release files missing. 3.ioq3 executable 4. baseq3 readable
But none of these things appears to be true.

Respect for any ideas.

Installed:

Code: Select all

games-fps/quake3-9999
games-fps/quake3-data-1.32b

Code: Select all

sudo ls -l /usr/share/games/quake3/baseq3

The Quake 3 engine is open source, this does not mean that Quake III: Arena the game is free. You must purchase the game to use the data, or make your own game!

There are three methods of installation. The preferred way is to use an official installer. Note that just as before, you can use a Quake 3: Arena CD-ROM from any version of Quake 3 (Windows, Linux, Gold, etc) to get the needed pak0.pk3.
