Steam on AMD64

Postby mr_clark » Tue Feb 19, 2013 5:15

Been quite a few years since I've tried Gentoo/Sabayon. Just did a clean 64 bit install on my system tonight.

I installed steam but when I run /usr/bin/steam it updates and then errors out with a pop-up that says:

You are missing the following 32-bit libraries, and Steam may not run:
libpangoft2-1.0.so.0
libpango-1.0.so.0
libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0
libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0
libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0
libpangocairo-1.0.so.0
libgdk-pixbuf-2.0.so.0
libcairo.so.2
libpango-1.0.so.0

How do I install these 32 bit libraries on my system?

How did you install steam?

I recommend installing the steam-meta package, which would pull in any dependencies you need. That's what I did on my amd64 system and I got the steam client up and running without problems.

Sorry. I didn't realize there were meta packages. Forgot how the package systems works in Gentoo/Sabayon.

I installed steam-base. So is it just 'equo install steam-meta'??

use the package manager to search

equo --help

equo search steam

or use the web - http://packages.sabayon.org/quicksearch?q=steam&x=0&y=0

Thanks. I did figure it out. Got Steam working but my new system seems laggy with eveything. Not sure why. Steam takes a looong time to load and I find even playing flash items or videos online that the sound is out of sync with whats going on. I'm going to have to see if I can figure out what I'm doing wrong.
