Enemy Territory howto

Postby wolfden » Sun Nov 05, 2006 1:13

Well I finally got it working, only took me a couple months. I was having problems with the sound being very choppy. Solution = purchasing a Audigy SE pci card

So I thought I was good to go, but when I got in game I was getting kicked by punk buster left and right so it took me a while again to find a solution. The problem is well known with the ET 2.60b - apparently the PB is not updating and you have to manually update it. Solution - install ET 2.60b and if you have problems with PB than do the following:

Code: Select all
chmod u+x /opt/enemy-territory/pb/pbweb.x86

cd to /opt/enemy-territory/pb/
Code: Select all
cd /opt/enemy-territory/pb/

run ./pbweb.x86
Code: Select all
./pbweb.x86

copy pbweb.x86 to ~/.etwolf/pb/
Code: Select all
cp pbweb.x86 ~/.etwolf/pb/

cd to ~/.etwolf/pb/
Code: Select all
cd ~/.etwolf/pb/

run ./pbweb.x86
Code: Select all
./pbweb.x86

To get sound I must run as root:
Code: Select all
echo "et.x86 0 0 direct" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/oss

but you need to build into the kernel under sounds SND_VERBOSE_PROCFS before you can run the above command

that will update you PB and allow you to play flawlessly - man it's been great. Anyone else play ET? I play a lot on the ABC server.

Hallo,
thanks to your Tips Enemy Territory works on my Sony Vaio Notebook.
In Windows ET always breaked down when i activated PunkBuster, but this problem is solved with SabayonLinux!

The only problem is, that I am too stupid to activate my USB-Plantronics-Headset.

I know that the Headset is /dev/dsp1 and i changed this in the ET-configfile, but ET says: "Could not open /dev/dsp1"

Do i have to modify the echo-command?

Greetings
burki

For Enemy Territory True Combat Elite sound to work
I did this
http://nullkey.ath.cx/~stuff/et-sdl-sound/

then I just copied it to my desktop and play as a mod to ET

got my ALSA configured in 6 channels and the sound and the game are great

I'm used to some serious sound from BF2 and all those mods and I play a lot of HL and HL2 games, but not on linux yet....

:pirat:
yet, argh!

all is tested after my alsaconf and alsamixer and testing with some nice buddha bar music then game so tested--done

Just installed 3.5 loop 1 last night to test things and possibly leave feed back about my results---I don't see et or et-tce in the repositories, will I have to build from source?

doesn't seem to work in 3.5 L1 because pbsetup.run can't resolve the website....websec2.evenbalance.com

even after doing everything described the punk buster would still kick me, so I went and dl'd the pbsetup--it worked with 3.4f, but no dice this time
