Firestarter - No More

Post by wolfden » Tue Jun 05, 2007 11:39

Gentoo is removing the firewall Firestarter

Just a heads up if anyone uses it or is wanting to install it, apparently the development of firestarter is no more. It is presently hard masked and soon to be completely removed.

As the Sabayon Wiki has recommended the use of Firestarter, any suggestions on a replacement? Shorewall? Guarddog?

Or you could continue to use firestarter. Is there anything actually wrong with it that constitutes removing it from the Gentoo repo?

Thanks for the 'heads up', Wolfden. Pity that it's being dropped, though, as I like the uncluttered, simple GUI of Firestarter, and the Firestarter Web site's layout and documentation is quite good.

Several open bugs, apparently. The need for documentation is a bad thing btw.

It does not work never kernels due some changes. I switched to Shorewall and I am satisfied.
