app-misc/tracker Issues - Workaround

With the new version of GNOME came a new version of app-misc/tracker which is required, but it's causing a lot of grief for users. User will experience really high CPU usage as it spawns a lot processes and soon user will not be able to open up anything.

So in the directory /etc/xdg/autostart/ is where the trackers get started, you can simple remove all the tracker-* files. You will need to be root of course:

Code: Select all

# rm -rfv /etc/xdg/autostart/tracker-*
Than log out and back in, things should be back to normal. So tell your friends and family that are GNOME users.

What worked for me is removing the tracker cache:

Code: Select all

rm -rf ~/.cache/tracker
But not sure if the problem will return once tracker rebuild it's database.
I also must notice that I ran into this problem on only 1 of my systems.

//edit: I spoke to soon. After the cache rebuild on my system the problems return.

Hello,

Are any updates on the matter? Could it be disabled? I've read on various forums that it is not required anymore. What do you know? what do you think?
