Post by sabayonino » Sun Jun 08, 2014 21:17

finally after a long time Fabio has announced that 32 bits images (and updates/new packages) will no longer be supported

I agree with the choice. It should have been taken long ago

We were discussing this on another forum today, most seem to agree that the time is right for this. Certainly this will help with development too. Also, there are specialized distributions for legacy hardware. Sure, there will be some complaining but it was probably the same when syatems went from 16 to 32 bit. :)

I also agree.
32 bits is obsolete,is only for old computers.

For me this is a mixed bag as some apps do only come in 32bit only and older computers are viable for many.

The version of SL that uses a 32-bit kernel image and 32-bit libraries is going to cease, but the 64-bit version is a multilib version, i.e. it comes with both 64-bit and 32-bit libraries. I run 32-bit applications successfully in 64-bit SL (and in 64-bit Gentoo, from which SL is built).
