Die Medialinx AG, Herausgeberin des Linux-Magazins, hat auf der Cebit die Linux New Media Awards 2014 vergeben. Die Preise zeichnen seit Jahren besondere Leistungen im Bereich Linux und Open Source aus.

Der Publikumspreis, über den mehrere Tausend Leser der deutschen und internationalen Publikationen abgestimmt haben, prämiert dieses Jahr das "Best Linux Desktop Environment". Für den Gewinner KDE SC nahm Cornelius Schumacher den Preis entgegen, langjähriger Projektmitarbeiter und Vorsitzender des KDE e.V. "KDE läuft mittlerweile auf vielen Geräten, etwa auf Tablets, doch der Desktop-PC steht immer noch im Zentrum," erklärte er. Die Desktopumgebung erhielt 46 Prozent der Stimmen und übertrumpfte damit deutlich die Konkurrenten Gnome (18 Prozent) und Xfce (13 Prozent).
