creating searchable pdfs

Postby pinkytoes » Tue Mar 04, 2014 18:49

this year i decided to go paperless so i went on EasyWeb and switched
from paper statements to electronic, and as my cellphone and hydro bills
(electric bill) came in since new years, i called them and did the same.
but now my new receipts and old statements stand out as awkward...

i really want to scan and shred all my paper but i don't know what to do.
adobe seems to be the people's choice but is it the best choice for me?
what im looking for is a way to turn paper into searchable pdfs quickly,
but at a resolution that looks nice but doesn't eat up entire hard drives.

ps: does anyone know what picture compression algorithm whatsapp uses? seems powerful.
Sabayon GNOME (64bit Steam) on acer v5 571p (also e1-572p)

Not sure, but have a look at the following article: Searchable PDFs with Linux. The packages cuneiform and exact-image (which installs hocr2pdf) are in the Entropy repositories, so you could try the procedure in his tutorial. Let us know the results.
