project for full year uni paper

Post by mikey0000 » Thu Mar 04, 2010 2:19

Hey everyone

I was wondering if people could help my group come up with a coding project (in ether C or C++) that would be cross platform(can be ported if need be) and hopefully useful to the outside world,
can be GUI or NON-GUI.

why do i ask here, perhaps you have an app that you've always wanted or otherwise, heres where you could get the chance to get it made for FREE lolz and we get to make something interesting and pass our course lol.

* can't be too optimistic
not sure on time that will be spent
* can't be too simple eg no basic calculators and no complicated ones ether :P

cool

When I was going to night school we had to do a project for a systems analysis class where we had to create and system that would be used by a manufacturer that would take care of inventory and process orders.

In a class for CICS/COBOL we had to create a system for a video store.

What about a program that would act like Access for mysql or sqlite.

An app for a shop would be very nice. Having some control of inventory, report earnings at end of month and easy to personalize bills to print.
I still see many shops (hardware store, bookshop, ...) using a msdos app for such things and it's quite rare to see one using a linux app (and it's always a custom one).
Former Sabayon staff (retired).

Sorry for not getting back on this post, heres what happened so far.

the app has to run on windows(boo!!) and be written in c or c++

my group choose to do a multiplatform(it will be ported to linux) game targeting my City(town) that im in, clone of a old game called joneses in the fast lane.....then today I got fired from the group lol, so might take up that Idea of inventory taking etc. might use QT for the gui kit perhaps??

of course any idea has to be approved by my lecturer :P
thanks for the ideas.

Mickey, I've just read the "Tip: Make a re-installation checklist", written by Fitzcarraldo. How about something like that?

An app that stores every single modification onto files, configuration and instalation of packages and software from your base system. (Obviously the start point is when you install the app).

Then you can make reports, and other tools to re-install, back-up and things like that.

Could be really usefull, but I don't know if this could work on M$ that easy (Register and so...)

About Qt... totally agree :D :alien:

"Sólo dos cosas son infinitas, el universo y la estupidez humana, y no estoy seguro acerca de la primera."
